1 And Solomon determined to build an house for the Name of the Lord, and an house for his kingdome.
2 And Solomon told out threescore and tenne thousand men to beare burdens, and fourescore thousand to hewe in the mountaine, and three thousand and sixe hundred to ouersee them.
3 And Solomon sent to [ Or, Hiram, 1Ki_5:1.] Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou diddest deale with Dauid my father, and diddest send him Cedars to builde him an house to dwell therein, euen so deale with me.

4 Behold, I build an house to the name of the Lord my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burne before him [ Hebrew: incense of spices.] sweet incense, and for the continuall shew-bread, and for the burnt offrings morning and euening, on the Sabbaths, and on the new Moones, and on the solemne feasts of the Lord our God. This is an ordinance for euer to Israel.
5 And the house which I build, is great: for great is our God aboue all gods.

Concierto de Salomón con Hiram (2:1-17 = 1Re_5:15-20)
1 Destinó setenta mil hombres para transportar las cargas, ochenta mil para los trabajos de las canteras en los montes, y tres mil seiscientos capataces para ellos. 2 Mandó también decir a Hiram, rey de Tiro: Lo que hiciste con David, mi padre, mandándole madera de cedro para edificar el palacio en que habitara, 3 hazlo también conmigo, para que pueda yo edificar un templo al nombre de Yahvé, mi Dios, y consagrarlo para quemar incienso y aromas delante de El, tener siempre ante El los panes de la proposición y ofrecerle holocaustos mañana y tarde, así como también los sábados, los novilunios y las otras solemnidades de Yahvé, nuestro Dios, por siempre, como El se lo ha mandado a Israel; 4 pues el templo que quiero edificar ha de ser grande, ya que grande es nuestro Dios, más que todos los dioses; 5¿y quién se creerá capaz de edificar una casa digna de El? Gracias que sólo es para quemar el incienso en su presencia. 6Envíame, pues, un hombre hábil que sepa trabajar el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, la púrpura, la escarlata y el jacinto; que sepa hacer toda suerte de cincelados, para que dirija a los maestros que tengo yo en Judá y en Jerusalén, los cuales previno ya David, mi padre. 7Envíame también maderas de cedro, de ciprés y de sándalo, pues yo sé que tus siervos entienden de cortar los árboles del Líbano; y los míos trabajarán con los tuyos, 8 para preparar gran cantidad de madera, pues la casa que yo deseo construir ha de ser grande y magnífica. 9Yo daré a los siervos tuyos que se ocupen de cortar y derribar los árboles veinte mil coros de trigo y otro tanto de cebada, veinte mil batos de vino y veinte mil de aceite. 10 Hiram, rey de Tiro, respondió en un escrito que dirigió a Salomón: Porque ama Yahvé a su pueblo, te ha hecho rey de él. 11? decía también: Bendito Yahvé, Dios de Israel, que ha hecho los cielos y la tierra y ha dado al rey David un hijo sabio, entendido, cuerdo y prudente, que edifique casa a Yahvé y casa real. 12Yo, pues, te envío un hombre hábil y entendido, a Hiram-Abi, 13hijo de una mujer de las hijas de Dan, pero cuyo padre era de Tiro, que sabe trabajar el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, la piedra, la madera, la púrpura, el jacinto, el lino y la escarlata, y grabar toda suerte de figuras; y es ingenioso en inventar cuanto se necesita para toda clase de obras. El trabajará con tus obreros y con los de David, mi señor, tu padre. 14Manda tú, pues, mi señor, a tus siervos el trigo y la cebada, el aceite y el vino que has ofrecido. 15Nosotros cortaremos en el Líbano toda la madera que necesites y la pondremos en balsas para llevarla por mar hasta Jope, y tú la harás llevar de allí a Jerusalén. 16 Salomón hizo el censo de todos los extranjeros que había en la tierra de Israel, después del hecho por David, su padre, y fueron hallados ciento cincuenta y tres mil seiscientos. 17Destinó de ellos setenta mil para los transportes, y ochenta mil para las canteras en los montes, y tres mil seiscientos capataces para vigilar a los obreros.

El autor sigue el lugar paralelo de i Re, que a veces amplía (v.2-15) o abrevia (16-17).

Salomón se prepara para edificar el templo. Se tiene en vista la edificación de un templo y un palacio, pero al omitir los detalles del palacio (1 Rey. 7:1-12) el cronista se fija en el templo. Crón. también omite 1 Rey. 5:3-5, dado que ya dio las razones por las que David no pudo edificar el templo (1 Crón. 17; 22:7-10; 28:2, 3).

En medio de los dos anuncios sobre la mano de obra que Salomón utilizó se encuentran las dos cartas que se mandaron él e Hiram, rey de Tiro. La obra en la que se le pide a Hiram que ayude es algo nuevo, y en la escala más grande posible; pero para lo que será no es nada nuevo; a saber, la antigua religión de Israel. Las observancias antiguas están presentes (4; ver Exo. 30:7, 8; 40:23; Núm. 28-29), los mismos materiales que antes (7; ver Exo. 35:35), y hasta una contraparte del supervisor original: el artesano Oholiab (13, 14; ver Exo. 35:34). (Los detalles, por ej. en los vv. 10, 14, 18, difieren de los paralelos en 1 Rey. 5:11, 13; 7:14; parece que de vez en cuando el cronista usa diferentes fuentes. Si Salomón usó mano de obra israelita o no, ver sobre 1 Rey. 5:13-18.)

Es otra de las características del cronista el darnos las palabras de Hiram en los vv. 11, 12: tal como las de la reina de Saba en 9:8, muestran al mundo de afuera reconociendo que la presencia y la bendición de Dios descansan en Israel cuando el escogido rey de Dios gobierna.

Preparativos. El capítulo describe la correspondencia diplomática entre salomón y Jirán, rey de Tiro. En esta correspondencia se resalta que para la construcción del Templo, la dirección artística (2,12s) y la mano de obra eran extranjeras (2,16). Se respeta el modelo entregado por Dios a David. El versículo 2,11 hace una ligera mención a la construcción del palacio real (1Re_5:21).
