Amarga antífona para comenzar (3). La situación es calamitosa. La nación está desolada: ¿Por un terremoto? ¿Por la guerra? ¿Es una creación poética? Tal vez sea más convincente la segunda hipótesis. El causante de tan grande desgracia es Dios, que ha dado a beber a su pueblo «una copa», un «vino de vértigo» (5): el castigo hasta la ejecución capital (cfr. Isa_51:17.22). En este hecho se fundamenta la amplia queja, respetuosa y confiada, de los versículos 3-6. El salmista pide en una nueva antífona la intervención divina (7), a la que sigue un oráculo: Dios es un guerrero que conquista y distribuye el terreno conquistado, aunque se reserve para sí algunos territorios como predio de la corona (8b-10). Pese al oráculo divino, el orante muestra su escepticismo: «¡quién me llevara...!» (11), a la vez que se interroga e interroga a Dios con confianza (12). La confianza desemboca en la esperanza de la ayuda divina (14). Pese a la evidencia presente, se impone la certeza de la confianza (14), en claro contraste con la antífona inicial. También la Iglesia perseguida se siente derrotada y pide auxilio. He aquí un salmo para orar con ella ante las catástrofes que asolan a la humanidad.
