Reparto de la tierra (13-21): A simple vista, este bloque de capítulos no motiva para nada a su lectura; listas de fronteras, poblaciones y nuevos propietarios no dicen mucho a nuestras preocupaciones pastorales actuales. Sin embargo, una atenta lectura nos podría proporcionar algún elemento para una mejor comprensión del problema actual de la tierra que enfrentan miles y miles de desposeídos en nuestros lugares de origen; pero, sobre todo, para poner los fundamentos bíblicos y teológicos a nuestro urgente compromiso cristiano con esos desposeídos. Una posible clave de lectura para estos capítulos es la preocupación y el deseo de Dios de un reparto equitativo de la tierra como punto de partida para un proyecto de libertad y de construcción de una sociedad solidaria e igualitaria. Así lo entendió el pueblo, y a ese proyecto tenemos que volver permanentemente nuestra mirada. Con demasiada frecuencia diseñamos planes pastorales y de evangelización y promoción humana casi perfectos en su formulación, pero muy pocos de ellos comienzan por donde lo hace el proyecto original de Dios: la ubicación del ser humano en un espacio concreto donde el individuo, la familia y la sociedad puedan realizarse. ¿Qué dicen nuestros planes de evangelización a unos destinatarios que tienen que ver desde lejos inmensos territorios cercados y rotulados con el inhumano título de «propiedad privada»? Más aún, ¿qué dicen esos mismos planes pastorales y de evangelización a los propietarios acaparadores de la tierra? ¿Acaso no parecen ser muchas veces el argumento teológico de dicha injusticia, cuando las etapas de nuestros planes se suceden y todo sigue igual o peor? La corriente deuteronomista (D), preocupada por este fenómeno de privación del derecho a la tierra, formula su posición: en el plan de Dios, la posesión de un territorio es esencial; pero no como propiedad privada, sino como una propiedad colectiva capaz de generar instituciones económicas, políticas, sociales, legislativas, judiciales y religiosas acordes con este modelo de propiedad. La misma corriente deuteronomista (D) va dejando constancia a lo largo de su obra -Deuteronomio- 2 Reyes- de los beneficios que trae este proyecto y de los perjuicios que acarrea abandonarlo o dejar que individuos o grupos de poder impongan otros modelos. Éste fue el caso del partido monárquico, que impuso la monarquía en Israel y con ella el empobrecimiento y la aparición de los desposeídos, antítesis del proyecto fundacional del pueblo de Dios que aún se constata en el moderno Israel y, en general, en todo el mundo capitalista -que paradójicamente coincide casi al detalle con el mundo cristiano-.
