El autor sagrado emplea el método de eliminación, para fijar sólo su atención sobre los semitas, Abraham, Isaac e Israel. Según Gen_36:2, era Timna concubina de Elifaz.

Es Seír el nombre de una montaña del país de Edom, al sur del mar Muerto; allí habitaban los horritas, que fueron suplantados por los descendientes de Esaú (Deu_2:12-22),

De Adán a Abrahán - De Abrahán a Israel. Los datos de este capítulo están tomados de Génesis (Gn 5; 10; 25,1-4.12-15; 35s). El Cronista avanza de manera lineal dejando de lado a quienes no quiere recordar. En Noé el tronco se divide en tres ramas que intenta explicar el origen de los pueblos del medio oriente: Jafet (1,5-7) corresponde a los pueblos europeos venidos del mar; Cam (1,8-16) a los pueblos del África incluyendo a los cananeos, filisteos y fenicios; y Sem (1,17-27) a los semitas, pueblo en el que nace Abrahán. La descendencia de Abrahán se divide principalmente en dos ramas: Isaac e Ismael (1,28-34), que a su vez se divide en la de Jacob/Israel (2,1s) y la de Esaú/Edom (1,35-54).

Las familias de Noé. La primera vez que se expande el árbol las familias de los hijos menores de Noé aparecen antes que la de Sem, cuya genealogía formará el tronco principal, tal como en Gén. 10. Ese capítulo es reducido y resumido un poco, mientras que Gén. 11:10-26 lo es mucho más, en lo que corresponde a los vv. 4-23 y vv. 24-27. El cronista también copia de Gén. las descripciones breves y memorables de Nimrod (10) y Peleg (19), los primeros dos comentarios secundarios de muchos más que añaden toques vívidos a lo que de otra manera sería listas aburridísimas de nombres.
