La Posteridad de Judá (2:2-4:23).
El autor sagrado señala las genealogías de las tribus de Israel, pero muestra sus preferencias por la de Judá por proceder de ella la dinastía davídica. Jacob es llamado Israel (Gen_35:23-26; Exo_1:1-4). Los v.1-2 son de transición entre las genealogías que anteceden y las de las tribus de Israel.

Hijos de Judá (Exo_2:1-8 = Gen_35:23-26; Gen_38:2-5; Gen_38:27-30; 2Cr_46:12).
1 He aquí los hijos de Israel: Rubén, Simeón, Leví, Judá Isacar, Zabulón, 2 Dan, José, Benjamín, Neftalí, Gad y Aser. 3 Hijos de Judá: Er, Onán y Sela; estos tres le nacieron de la hija de Súa la cananea. Er, primogénito de Judá, fue malo a los ojos de Yahvé, que le mató. 4 Tamar, nuera de Judá, le dio Fares y Zeraj. 9 Hijos que le nacieron a Esrón: Jerajmeel, Ram y Quelubai.10 Ram engendró a Aminadab. Aminadab engendró a Nacsón, príncipe de los hijos de Judá; 11 Nacsón engendró a Salma; Salma engendró a Booz; 12Booz engendró a Obed; Obed engendró a Isaí. 13 Isaí engendró a Eliab, su primogénito; a Abi-nadab, su segundo; a Simea, el tercero; 14 a Netaneel, el cuarto; a Radai, el quinto; 15 a Osen, el sexto, y a David, el séptimo. 16 Sus hermanas fueron Sarvia y Abigaíl. Hijos de Quelubai (Luc_2:18-24).
18 Caleb, hijo de Esrón, tuvo hijos de Azuba, su mujer, y de Jeriot. Los hijos que tuvo de Azuba fueron: Jeser, Sobab y Ardón. 19 Murió Azuba, y Caleb tomó a Efrata, que le parió a Jur. 20 Jur engendró a Uri, y Uri engendró a Betsael. 21Luego entró Esrón a la hija de Maquir, padre de Galaad, cuando tenía sesenta años, y ella le parió a Segub. 22 Segub engendró a Jair, que tuvo veintitrés ciudades en la tierra de Galaad. 23 Los guesureos y los sirios les tomaron los burgos de Jair, con Que-nat, y las ciudades de su dependencia: sesenta ciudades. 25 Los hijos de Jerajmeel, primogénito de Esrón, fueron: Ram el primogénito; Buna, Oren y Osen, sus hermanos. 2ó Jerajmeel tuvo otra mujer llamada Atara, que fue madre de Onam. 27 Los hijos de Ram, primogénito de Jerajmeel, fueron: Maas, Jamín y Equer. 28 Los hijos de Onam fueron: Samai y Jada. Hijos de Samai: Nadab y Abisur. 29 El nombre de la mujer de Abisur era Abijail, y le parió a Ajbán y Molid. 30 Hijos de Nadab: Seled y Apaim. Seled murió sin hijos. 31 Hijo de Apaim, Iseí. Vivían en el Negueb, al sur de Bersabé, y se aliaron con David (1Sa_30:29).

Hijos de Caleb por Mesa (2:42-49).
42 Hijos de Caleb, hermano de Jerajmeel: Mesa, su primogénito, que fue padre de Zif, y los hijos de Maresa, padre de Hzbrón. 43 Hijos de Hebrón: Coré, Tapuaj, Requén y Sama. 44 Sama engendró a Rajam, padre de Jorqueam; Requén engendró a Samai. 45 Hijo de Samai: Maón; y Maón, padre de Betsu. 46 Efa, concubina de Caleb, parió a Jarán, Mosa y Gazez. Jarán engendró a Gazez. 47 Hijos de Jodaim: Reguem, Jotán, Guesa, Pelet, Efa y Saaf. 4 Maaca, concubina de Caleb, parió a Seber y Tircana. 49 También parió a Saaz, padre de Madmana, y a Seba, padre de Majbena y padie de Guibea. Los LXX leen Maresa en vez de Mesa. Maresa es la ciudad bien conocida al sur de Beit-Gibrin (Jos_15:44; Miq_1:15). En la lista figuran muchos nombres de ciudades. Acsa, hija de Caleb (Jos_15:16-19

Hijos de Hur (Jos_2:50-55).
50 Estos fueron hijos de Caleb: Sobal, hijo de Jur, primogénito de Efrata, y Sobal, padre de Quiryat-Jearim; 51 Salma, padre de Betlejem; Jaret, padre de Bet-Gader. 52 Los hijos de Sobal, padre de Quiryat-Jearim, fueron: Aroé, Jasi el menajita. 53 Las familias de Quiryat-Jearim fueron: los jeturianos, los pucianos, los sumacianos y los misreenos; de estas familias salieron los soreacianos y los estatolianos. 54 Hijos de Salma: Betlejem y los netopacianos, Astoret, Bet-Joab, Jasi, los manajteos, los soreos, 55 y las familias de escribas que habitan en Jabes; los tireacianos, los simeacianos y los socacianos. De la casa de Recab proceden los recabitas (2Re_10:15-16; Jer_35:6ss). En contra Gottsberger, Ubach, que ven en los recabitas a los habitantes de Ber Marcabot (Jos_19:5).

La familia de Judá por Jerameel. Después de varias ramas (25-33), el árbol genealógico corre directamente a Elisama (34-41). Si está completo, él sería más o menos contemporáneo de Da vid; si este es uno de esos casos de exageración donde se han omitido algunas generaciones y padre se refiere realmente a antepasado, puede ser que haya vivido durante la misma época que el cronista. Lo que sí es más importante es la aparición de otro extranjero, Jarja (34, 35) asimilado de la misma manera que Batsúa (3) sin ninguna evidencia de desaprobación, aunque ella representa a Canaán y él a Egipto: los dos principales enemigos de Israel antes y después del éxodo. (En vista del v. 34, puede ser que Ajlai en el v. 34 es hija o nieta de Sesán.)
