1 Concerning the diuisions of the porters: of the Korhites was [ Or, Shelemiah, ver. 14.] Meshelemiah the sonne of Kore, of the sonnes of [ Or, Abiasaph, 1Ch_9:19; 1Ch_6:37.] Asaph.
2 And the sonnes of Meshelemiah were Zechariah the first borne, Iediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Iathniel the fourth,
3 Elam the fifth, Iehohanan the sixth, Elioenai the seuenth.
4 Moreouer the sonnes of Obed-Edom were Shemaiah the first borne, Iehozabad the second, Ioah the thirde, and Sacar the fourth, and Nethaneel the fifth.
5 Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seuenth, Peulthai the eighth: for God blessed [ That is, Obed-Edom, as 1Ch_13:14 .] him.
6 Also vnto Shemaiah his sonne were sonnes borne, that ruled throughout the house of their father: for they were mighty men of valour.
7 The sonnes of Shemaiah: Othni, and Rephael, and Obed, Elzabad, whose brethren were strong men;

8 All these of the sonnes of Obed-Edom: they and their sonnes and their brethren, able men for strength for the seruice, were threescore and two of Obed-Edom.
9 And Meshelemiah had sonnes and brethren, strong men, eighteene.
10 Also Hosah of the children of Merari, had sonnes: Simri the chiefe, (for though he was not the first borne, yet his father made him the chiefe)
11 Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the thirde, Zechariah the fourth: all the sonnes and brethren of Hosah, were thirteene.
12 Among these were the diuisions of the porters, euen among the chiefe men, hauing wards one against another, to minister in the house of the Lord.
13 And they cast lots [ Or, aswel for the smal as for the great.] as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers for euery gate.
14 And the lot Eastward fel to [ Called Meshelemiah, ver.1.] Shelemiah; then for Zechariah his sonne (a wise counseller:) they cast lots, and his lot came out Northward.
15 To Obed-Edom Southward, and to his sonnes, the house of [ Hebrew: gatherings.] Asuppim.
16 To Shuppim and Hosa, the lot came foorth Westward with the gate Shallecheth, by the causey of the going [ See 1Ki_10:4 ; 2Ch_9:4 ; 2Ch_9:11 .] vp, ward against ward.
17 Eastward were sixe Leuites, Northward foure a day, Southward foure a day, and toward Asuppim two and two.
18 And Parbar Westward, foure at the causey, and two at Parbar.
19 These are the diuisions of the porters among the sonnes of Kore, and among the sonnes of Merari.
20 And of the Leuites, Ahiiah was ouer the treasures of the house of God, and ouer the treasures of the [ Heb, holy things.] dedicate things.
21 As concerning the sonnes of [ Or, Libni, 1Ch_6:17 .] Laadan: the sonnes of the Gershonite Laadan, hiefe fathers; euen of Laadan the Gershonite, were [ Or, Iehiel, 1Ch_23:8 .] Iehieli.
22 The sonnes of Iehieli, Zetham and Ioel his brother, which were ouer the treasures of the house of the Lord.
23 Of the Amramites, and the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites:
24 And Shebuel the sonne of Gershom,

the sonne of Moses, was ruler of the treasures.
25 And his brethren by Eliezer: Rehabiah his sonne, and Ieshaiah his sonne, and Ioram his sonne, and Zichri his sonne, & Shelomith his sonne.
26 Which Shelomith and his brethren, were ouer all the treasures of the dedicate things, which Dauid the king and the chiefe fathers, the captaines ouer thousands and hundreds, and the captaines of the hoste had dedicated.
27 [ Hebrew: out of the battels and spoiles.] Out of the spoyles wonne in battels, did they dedicate to maintaine the house of the Lord.
28 And all that Samuel the Seer, and Saul the sonne of Kish, and Abner the sonne of Ner, and Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah had dedicated, and whosoeuer had dedicated any thing, it was vnder the hand of Shelomith and of his brethren.
29 Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sonnes, were for the outward busines ouer Israel, for officers and Iudges.
30 And of the Hebronits, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand and seuen hundred, were [ Hebrew: ouer the charge.] officers among them of Israel on this side Iorden westward, in all busines of the Lord, and in the seruice of the king.
31 Among the Hebronites was Ieriiah the chiefe, euen among the Hebronits, according to the generations of his fathers: in the fourtieth yeere of the reigne of Dauid, they were sought for, and there were found among them mightie men of valour, at Iazer of Gilead.

Parte de los descendientes de Coré (9:19) y de Merarí fueron ocupados en guardar las puertas del templo y todas sus dependencias. En el v.5 se hace alusión a la permanencia del arca en casa de Obededom (13:14); al rebasar el número sagrado de siete, el octavo es considerado como una bendición de Dios. En el v.18 se menciona Parvar (Parhar, parwarim), nombre de origen persa (2Re_23:11

Encargados de los tesoros (2Re_26:20-32).
20 Ajías tenía la guarda de los tesoros de la casa de Dios y de los utensilios sagrados. 21 De entre los hijos de Laedam, los hijos de Gersón, descendientes de Laedam, jefe de las casas paternas de Laedam, gersonita, eran: Jejielí y Zetán. 22 Los hijos de Jejielí, Zetán y Joel, su hermano, que guardaban los tesoros de la casa de Yahvé. 23 De entre los amramitas, jisearitas, hebronitas y uzelitas, 24 Sebuel, hijo de Gersón, hijo de Moisés, era intendente del tesoro. 25 De entre sus hermanos, los descendientes de Eliezer, cuyo hijo fue Rejabía; hijo de éste, Jesaya; hijo de éste, Jorarn; hijo de éste, Zicrí; hijo de éste, Selomit; 26 Selomit y sus hermanos guardaban los tesoros de las cosas santas que habían sido consagradas por el rey David, por los jefes de las casas paternas, los jefes de millares y de centenas, y los jefes del ejército, 27 del botín de guerra y de los despojos para la casa de Yahvé. 28 Todo lo que había sido consagrado por Samuel el vidente; por Saúl, hijo de Quis; por Abner, hijo de Ner; por Joab, hijo de Sarvia, todas las cosas consagradas, estaban bajo la custodia de Selomit y sus hermanos. 29 De entre los jisearitas, Quenayas y sus hermanos ejercieron funciones exteriores, como oficiales y jueces en Israel. 30 De entre los hebronitas, josabía y sus hermanos, hombres valientes, mil setecientos, gobernaban a los israelitas del lado de allá del Jordán, en su parte occidental, tanto en lo concerniente al servicio de Yahvé cuanto en lo concerniente al servicio del rey. 31 Por lo que hace a los hebronitas, de quienes era jefe Jeriyá, se hicieron el año cuarenta del reinado de David investigaciones en Jazer de Galaad, según sus genealogías y sus casas paternas; 32 y se halló que los hermanos de Jeriyá, hombres valientes y robustos, eran dos mil setecientos, jefes de casas paternas. El rey David los constituyó sobre los rubenitas, los gaditas y la media tribu de Manases para lo tocante a Dios y lo tocante al rey.

Unos levitas cuidaban de los objetos preciosos destinados al culto (2Re_9:26); otros, de los tesoros de las cosas santas (2Re_18:11). Algunos tenían a su cargo las funciones cultuales que tenían lugar fuera del templo (v.29). La organización de sacerdotes y levitas la hizo David en el último año de su vida (2Re_29:27).

Los porteros. El marco básico para este grupo de listas es vv. 1-3, 9-11 y 19. De las tres grandes familias de los levitas (6:1) solo los coreítas (1, Coré era un coreíta según 6:22) y los hijos de Merari (10) están representados aquí; el Asaf del v. 1 no es el famoso de 25:1 quien era un gersonita (6:39-43) sino el Ebiasaf de 9:19. Donde uno esperaría ver una lista de porteros gersonitas en cambio encontramos la familia de Obed-edom (4-8). A este personaje intrigante no se le da el linaje levita, pero si todas las citas son de la misma persona, entonces debe ser el levita de 15:18, lo cual lo califica para estar en esta lista, como también la bendición especial del v. 5 y de 13:14 (y ver sobre 15:17-25).

Aunque los de la generación de Obed-edom pueden haber sido porteros en la época de David, mucho antes de que se construyera el templo (15:17-18), su nombre figura aquí también (15) después de habérselo edificado, de modo que es del período de Salomón; mientras que 9:17-32 (que dio bastante detalle acerca de las tareas de algunos de los porteros) incluye algunos de los mismos nombres aún después de la construcción del segundo templo unos cuatro siglos más tarde. Todo esto es parte de la técnica del cronista de utilizar información de varios niveles y distintas épocas para crear una imagen a fondo de la vida y culto del pueblo de Dios. La fama de uno de los porteros por ser consejero entendido (14) y la mención de los lugares donde otros estaban de turno demuestra el realismo y la veracidad de las partes no obstante la manera artística en que la obra entera ha sido formada.

Organización de los porteros. Ésta es la tercera lista de porteros (veáse 9,17-26 y 16,37-43). Los porteros eran los guardianes del recinto sagrado. Tenían que defender los accesos al Templo, incluso dando muerte a los intrusos.
