1 The sonnes of Iudah: [ Gen_38:29 ; Gen_46:12 .] Pharez, Hezron, and [ Or, Chelubai, 1Ch_2:9 or Caleb, 1Ch_2:18 .] Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal.
2 And [ Or, Haroe, 1Ch_2:52 .] Reaiah, the son of Shobal, begate Iahath, and Iahath begate Ahumai, & Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites.

21 The sonnes of Shelah [ Gen_38:1 ; Gen_38:5 .] the sonne of Iudah were: Er the father of Lecah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linnen, of the house of Ashbea.
22 And Iokim, and the men of Chozeba, and Ioash, and Saraph, who had the dominion in Moab, & Iashubi Lehem. And these are ancient things.
23 These were the Potters, and those that dwelt amongst plants and hedges. There they dwelt with the king for his worke.
24 The sonnes of Simeon were: [ Or, Iemuel, Gen_46:10 ; Exo_6:15 .] Nemuel, and Iamin, Iarib, Zerah, and Shaul:
25 Shallum his sonne: Mibsam his sonne: Mishma his sonne.
26 And the sonnes of Mishma: Hamuel his sonne, Zacchur his sonne, Shimei his sonne.
27 And Shimei had sixteene sonnes, and sixe daughters, but his brethren had not many children, neither did all their family multiply [ Hebrew: vnto.] like to the children of Iudah.

Fue asociado desde antiguo a la tribu de Judá. Ocupaba Simeón la extremidad meridional de Palestina. El texto da una lista genealógica (v.24-27), topográfica (v.28-33) Y menciona dos emigraciones de los hijos de Simeón, una en tiempos de Ezequías y otra en época desconocida (2 Re c. 18-19).

La tribu de Simeón. La próxima es la tribu de Simeón, siempre asociada directamente con Judá, cuyo extenso territorio compartía. Jos. 19:1-9 menciona esto en la lista de lugares reprodu cidos en los vv. 28-33. Estos datos geográficos, con mucha menos genealogía que en 4:1-23, indican que la tierra y la población de la tribu habían disminuido, de lo cual estaban conscientes los lectores del cronista (Simei, v. 27, es la excepción que prueba la regla). Por el otro lado ninguna tribu de Israel puede simplemente marchitarse, y los vv. 38-43 dan ejemplos de vitalidad inclusive en Simeón.
