1 Now Beniamin begate [ Gen_46:21; Num_26:38.] Bela his first borne, Ashbel the second, and Aharah the third,
2 Nohah the fourth, and Rapha the fifth.
3 And the sonnes of Bela were: [ Or, Ard, Gen_46:21.] Addar, and Gera, and Abihud,

Desde Benjamín: se prepara el trono. La lista en los vv. 1-28 se compara en su alcance con las de Judá y Leví. Difiere considerablemente de otras listas de Benjamín (por ej. 7:6-11; Núm. 26:38-41) y su sección parece estar desconectada; aquí, como en otros lugares, es posible que se deba a que hijos se refiera a descendientes en otros tiempos y lugares. Aun debemos interpretarlos co mo si estuviesen unidos por medio de los vínculos de las tribus.

Dentro de la tribu, la familia específica que ocupa los vv. 29-40 se encuentra aquí porque es la familia de Saúl. Se repetirá en 9:34-44 para servir como introducción inmediata a lo que el cronista considera la historia del reino. Tal como fue el caso de Noé, Abraham, Moisés, Josué y Samuel, no se le da atención a Saúl, y aun menos a los acontecimientos cruciales del período. Como siempre, Crón. está más interesado en continuidad que en cambios.

Gabaón (29) es un lugar, como Jerusalén (ver comentario sobre 4:1-23). Las relaciones de la familia establecida allí se clarifican y se armonizan con 1 Sam. 9:1 cuando la RVA provee la nota que in cluye a Ner (ver 9:36), lo cual asume que tenía un hermano y un hijo, ambos llamados Quis; esto reconoce que ninguna de las dos historias dan una genealogía completa. Por otro lado, si la genealogía que continúa después de Saúl está completa, terminaría alrededor del período del exilio; pero si está incompleta, duraría mucho más aunque dejó de ser parte de la monarquía con los eventos de 10:6.

Las demás tribus. Estos capítulos contienen noticias muy cortas de las demás tribus de Israel: Isacar, Benjamín, Manasés, Efraín y Aser. Casi nos se dice nada de Neftalí, mientras que Dan y Zabulón no aparecen, pues ya no existen en época del Cronista. La reaparición de los benjaminitas en 8,1-32 tiene como objetivo enlazar con Jerusalén (8,28.32) y con el rey Saúl (8,33) protagonista del capítulo 10, del cual encontramos su árbol genealógico (8,33-40).
