Construcción del templo (3:1-17 = 1Re_6:1-38).
1 Comenzó, pues, Salomón a edificar la casa en Jerusalén, en el monte Moría, que había sido mostrado a David, su padre; en el lugar que David había dispuesto en la era de Ornan, jebuseo. 2 Comenzó la edificación a dos días del mes segundo del año cuarto de su reinado. 3 He aquí el plano seguido por Salomón para la construcción de la casa de Yahvé: el largo era de sesenta codos, según la medida antigua; el ancho, de veinte codos. 4 El vestíbulo (ulam), que iba delante, tenía un largo correspondiente al ancho de la casa de veinte codos, y su anchura era de diez codos y ciento veinte de alto; lo recubrió interiormente de oro puro. 5 Revistió la parte mayor de la casa (hecal) de madera de ciprés y la recubrió de oro puro, haciendo grabar en ella palmas y cadenetas que se enlazaban unas con otras. 6 Hizo el pavimento del templo de mármoles preciosos y de gran belleza. Sigue, por lo regular, el relato paralelo, pero insiste en ponderar la riqueza de los materiales, sobre todo la abundancia del oro.

El edificio. La ubicación (1) está llena de simbolismo. Allí David había visto tanto la ira como la misericordia de Dios (1 Crón. 21:16), como también Abraham mucho antes (Gén. 22:14: En el monte del Señor será provisto; Gén. 22:2 es la otra vez en toda la Biblia que se menciona Moriah). También allí, mucho después, Simeón tendría al bebé Jesús en sus brazos y diría mis ojos han visto tu salvación (Luc. 2:30).

El breve relato de la construcción del edificio en donde Dios iba a mostrar su gloria (ver el último versículo de esta sección, 5:14) comienza naturalmente con la entrada (4). Es posible que esta haya sido una torre, seis veces más alta que ancha (así en la RVA), pero es más probable que las dos medidas eran solamente 20. El pórtico lleva al lugar santo, la sala mayor (5, 7), y de allí al lugar santísimo (8) donde están los querubines (10-13). Se destaca la cantidad y la calidad del adorno; Parvaim (6) es el nombre de un lugar ahora desconocido, pero su oro obviamente era muy bien cotizado, como el oro puro y el oro de buena calidad de los vv. 4 y 5; 600 talentos (8) es una cantidad enorme; los 50 siclos del v. 9 se deben referir a la cantidad de hojas de oro necesarias para dorar las cabezas de los clavos (¡clavos realmente hechos de oro no serían muy prácticos!). También hubo un velo entre el lugar santo y el lugar santísimo en el tabernáculo (Exo. 26:31-33); el edificio de Salomón claramente sigue los mismos principios que el de Moisés; sin embargo, los detalles son diferentes. Finalmente, afuera del edificio, se mencionan las columnas independientes Jaquín y Boaz (15-17).

*3 Comienza la nueva época histórica (2Cr 3:1 s). El templo se relaciona con la tentación de Abrahán y el sacrificio de Isaac (Gén 22:1-24): con el monte Moria. Es grandioso, marcando así un claro contraste con el humildemente reconstruido por los repatriados. Los querubines, guardianes de los templos y palacios asirio-babilónicos, interceden ante Dios. Las dos columnas, de origen egipcio o cananeo, pueden evocar la columna de fuego y de nube que acompañó a Israel durante la travesía del desierto.

Las obras (Cap. 3-4). Este episodio está dividido en tres partes: la elección del lugar (3,1s), la construcción del Templo (3,3-14), y la enumeración del mobiliario (3,15-4,22). Con relación al lugar, se respeta la elección de David y se relaciona con el sacrificio de Isaac; esto añade prestigio al Templo ya que se relaciona el sacrificio que Dios pide a Abrahán con los que se realizarán el futuro Templo. La referencia al segundo mes (3,2) y al velo del Templo (3,14), remiten al Templo reconstruido después del exilio (Esd_3:8).
