Diversas construcciones de Salomón (8:1-18 = 1Re_9:10-25)
1 Al cabo de veinte años, en los que edificó Salomón la casa de Yahvé y su propia casa, 2 reconstruyó las ciudades que le había dado Hiram, y estableció en ellas a los hijos de Israel. Fueron éstos con los siervos de Salomón a Ofir, y trajeron de allí cuatrocientos cincuenta talentos de oro, que entregaron a Salomón.

Utilizando libremente el texto del libro de los Reyes, el autor da una descripción grandiosa e hiperbólica de las actividades de Salomón. Por razón de una perspectiva diferente, dice el texto que reconstruyó las ciudades que le había dado Hiram (1Re_9:10). De la campaña a Jamat de Soba nada dice el lugar paralelo de los Reyes. Tamar (1Re_9:18) es distinta de Tadmor, Palmira, a unos doscientos treinta kilómetros al nordeste de Damasco. A la hija de Faraón no se le autoriza habitar en un lugar donde ha estado el arca de Dios (v.11); quizá esta anotación está basada en los abusos que había acarreado la presencia de mujeres en el templo. Segur el texto, Salomón fue a Asiongaber, lo que no dice 1Re_9:26-28.

La adoración de Salomón. Esta sección describe en más detalle que 1 Rey. 9:25 toda la obra de Salomón para la casa de Jehovah (16). Puede ser que ese versículo responda a 2:1, y de esa manera concluye la parte principal (casi siete capítulos de largo) de la historia de Salomón, el que edifica el templo. Se menciona a su reina egipcia aquí por causa del peligro que correría al acercarse demasiado a la santidad del templo, porque todo lo conectado con el arca es santo (en lugar de aquellas habitaciones donde ha entrado el arca ... , v. 11); los riesgos de las cosas sagradas fueron ilustrados en el tiempo de David por la historia de Uza (1 Crón. 13). Crón. no especifica si la razón por la que estaba en peligro era porque era gentil, mujer o sencillamente (como Uza) alguien no autorizado; lo que se destaca no tiene que ver con ella sino con el templo. Aunque Salomón no era sacerdote, sin embargo, se le permite hacer mucho con respecto al templo (12-15). Se remite al mandamiento de Moisés (13) y a lo establecido por David (14), pero lo que hace la mención de esos nombres augustos es que sus propios mandamientos (15) sean considerados de la misma importancia. Todo lo que establece es con la intención de ser un marco para la manera del pueblo de adorar a su Dios.

Empresas y fama de Salomón. En esta sección el Cronista se vale de 1Re_9:10-28; 1Re_10:1-40 para construir su relato. Sin embargo, omite 1Re_11:1-40 que contiene un juicio muy fuerte al reinado de Salomón. Por el contrario, insiste en aquello que lo ha destacado como son su sabiduría y sus riquezas. La sección está construida en tres momentos: enumeración de algunas construcciones ordenadas por Salomón (1Re_8:1-16); la gloria de Salomón expresada en el reconocimiento de los reyes extranjeros y su riqueza extraordinaria (,28), y por último, la muerte de Salomón. La campaña contra el rey Jamat mencionada en 8,3 es históricamente probable. En 9,29 se citan tres fuentes a las que remite el Cronista, las cuales desconocemos.
