1 And there happened to bee there a man of Belial, whose name was Sheba the sonne of Bichri, a Beniamite, & hee blew a trumpet, and said, Wee haue no part in Dauid, neither haue we inheritance in the sonne of Iesse: euery man to his tents, O Israel.
2 So euery man of Israel went vp from after Dauid, and followed Sheba the sonne of Bichri: but the men of Iudah claue vnto their king, from Iordane euen to Ierusalem.

12 And Amasa wallowed in blood in the mids of the high way: and when the man saw that all the people stood still, he remoued Amasa out of the high way into the field, and cast a cloth vpon him, when hee saw that euery one that came by him, stood still.
13 When he was remoued out of the high way, all the people went on after Ioab, to pursue after Sheba the sonne of Bichri.
14 And hee went thorow all the tribes of Israel vnto Abel, and to Bethmaachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.

Revuelta de Seba (20:1-3).
1 Había allí un hombre perverso llamado Seba, hijo de Bicri, benjaminita, que se puso a tocar la trompeta, diciendo: No tenemos nosotros parte con David ni heredad con el hijo de Isaí. ilsrael, a tus tiendas! ¡Cada uno a su casa! 2Y se fueron de con David todos los hombres de Israel, siguiendo a Seba, hijo de Bicri. Pero los de Judá se adhirieron a su rey desde el Jordán hasta Jerusalén. 3Cuando llegó David a Jerusalén, tomo a las diez concubinas que había dejado al cuidado de su casa y las puso bajo guardia. Proveyó a su mantenimiento, pero no volvió a entrar a ellas, y encerradas estuvieron hasta el día de su muerte, viviendo como viudas.

El altercado de que dimos cuenta al fin del capítulo anterior amenazó seriamente la unidad nacional. Bastó que alguien levantara la bandera de la rebelión para que las diez tribus del Norte, sintiéndose como arrinconadas y desplazadas, se desgajaran de la corona de David y se rigieran por un poder autónomo. La partícula sham, allí, del v.1 indica que entre los participantes en el altercado de Caígala (1Sa_10:8; 1Sa_11:14-15; 1Sa_13:4-15) hallábase Seba, hombre de Belial (1Sa_16:7; 1Sa_1:16; 1Sa_2:17), descendiente de Benjamín por parte de su segundo hijo, llamado Bajor (Gen_46:21). El grito de independencia es idéntico al que más tarde sellará la separación definítiva (1Re_12:16). El toque de trompeta (1Re_16:22) reunió en torno Seba a los amotinados, que por la cuenca del Jordán arriba o por algun wadi se marcharon hacia el macizo central de Palestina, proclamando por dondequiera que nada tenían que ver con un rey que los de Judá habían robado (ganab, 19:42).
La comitiva real se puso en marcha hacia Jerusalén escoltada por los de Judá, que, por reacción por el alejamiento de los de Israel, se adhirieron fuertemente a David. No fue triunfal la entrada en Jerusalén; había huido David bajo el signo de la división y entraba de nuevo con un reino resquebrajado.

Muerte de Amasa (20:4-13).
4El rey dijo a Amasa: Convócame para dentro de tres días a los hombres de Judá, y hállate tú también aquí presente. 5 Fue, pues, Amasa a reunir a Judá, pero se detuvo más del tiempo señalado; 6 y David dijo a Abisaí: Seba, hijo de Bicri, va a hacernos ahora más mal que Absalón. Toma, pues, a los siervos de tu señor y ve tras él, no sea que se acoja a las ciudades fuertes y se escape de nuestra vista. 7Marcharon con Abisaí las gentes de Joab, los cereteos y feleteos y todos los valientes, y, saliendo de Jerusalén, fueron tras Seba, hijo de Bicri. 8Cuando llegaron a la gran piedra que hay en Gabaón, les salió al encuentro Amasa. Iba Joab vestido de una túnica, y sobre ella llevaba ceñida a sus lomos una espada en su vaina, y, según avanzó, se cayó de ella la espada. 9Joab dijo a Amasa: ¿Estás bien, hermano?; y con la mano derecha tomó a Amasa de la barba, como para besarle. 10 Amasa no hizo atención a la espada que tenía Joab en la mano, y éste le hirió con ella en el vientre, echándole a tierra las entrañas, sin repetir el golpe. Amasa murió. Después Joab y Abisaí, su hermano, fueron en seguimiento de Seba, hijo de Bicri. 11 Uno de los servidores de Joab se quedó junto a Amasa, y decía: Los de Joab, los de David, que sigan tras Joab. 12 Amasa, bañado en sangre, yacía en el camino. Viendo aquel hombre que todos se paraban, apartó a Amasa del camino, lo llevó al campo y echó sobre él una cubierta, porque vio que cuantos venían se paraban junto a él. 13Una vez apartado del camino, iban ya todos tras Joab, en seguimiento de Seba, hijo de Bicri.

Percatóse David de la grave situación creada por el altercado de Gálgala y mandó a Amasa (17:25; 19:14) que en el espacio de tres días movilizara a Judá para impedir que Israel se independizara totalmente. Ante la tardanza de Amasa y preocupado David de que Seba oscureciese sus ojos (los LXX), o, lo que es lo mismo, que le creara un grave conflicto, encargó a Abisaí, de los hijos de Sarvia (2:18), hermano de Joab, que se pusiera al frente del ejército. No se sabe por qué fue tan lento Amasa en sus funciones; acaso no encontró en el pueblo ambiente propicio para emprender una nueva guerra, o porque continuaba bajo el odio hacia David, o Porque los guerreros preferían el liderazgo de Joab. Por otra parte David mantuvo su palabra de relegar a Joab a un segundo plano, Bersabé y a siete kilómetros al sudeste de ed-Dahariyeh. En opinión de Smith, debe leerse: Ira el jairita, hijo de David, en vez de sacerdote de David. Este oficio debe entenderse o bien en el sentido de que eran sustitutos de David en las funciones sacerdotales que competían al rey (6:13-20), o como confidente del rey y maestro del ceremonial (Vaccari).

Sublevación de Sebá. Sebá ha reunido a sus hombres en una ciudad amurallada, como temía David (6). Una mujer, reconocida por su sabiduría, entabla un diálogo con Joab, en el que se da mayor valor a la vida de toda una ciudad en comparación con la cabeza de un solo rebelde; ella transmite su punto de vista a sus conciudadanos. Joab consigue lo que desea: la cabeza de Sebá y el final de la revuelta. Las tropas se dispersan. Joab vuelve a Jerusalén donde el rey. Así termina la historia, o esta parte al menos. Es una historia de revueltas, de fuga del rey y de vuelta a casa. Refleja decisiones humanas y poder político. Plantea numerosas preguntas, pero no responde a ninguna. Su naturaleza es decididamente secular; el papel concedido a Dios es mínimo. Resulta ambivalente; los intérpretes han puesto de relieve elementos tanto favorables como desfavorables a David. Joab queda al frente de todo el ejército de Israel. Benayas está al cargo de los mercenarios; desde 8,18 no había sido mencionado. Yorán se ocupa de las obras públicas; Josafat será el heraldo; Sisá, el cronista; Sadoc y Abiatar, los sacerdotes, así como Irá, el jairita, un personaje desconocido hasta ahora.
