¿Quién es el resto? Este capítulo describe una acción simbólica que recuerda a Amó_8:1s. La explicación del símbolo de los higos buenos y los higos malos es sorprendente: cualquiera pensaría que en el ambiente de incursiones militares y de deportación a Babilonia, los higos malos son los que se han ido y que los buenos son los que se han quedado; sin embargo, no es así. Los buenos son los que se fueron, pues tendrán la oportunidad de ser purificados; en cambio los que se quedaron o huyeron a Egipto serán como los higos podridos. La mejor suerte de los deportados consiste en que el Señor se acordará de ellos, y con ese «resto» re-construirá su pueblo.
