Últimos oráculos. Jeremías se dirige a sus paisanos refugiados en Egipto para recordarles que el motivo de su situación y de la de toda Judá fue su infidelidad al Señor, y que de seguir sus mismos cultos idolátricos en Egipto serán exterminados.
En el versículo 17 se menciona de nuevo a la «reina de los cielos» (cfr. 7,18), una antigua divinidad femenina también conocida como la diosa madre y, por tanto, vinculada con la sexualidad y la fecundidad; en Mesopotamia se la conocía como Istar, y en Canaán la denominaban Astarté (cfr. 3,6). Para su culto, que era especialmente de las mujeres, se elaboraban tortas de harina que representaban a la divinidad desnuda. En el versículo 19, las mujeres responden a la invectiva de Jeremías. Nada de lo que ellas han hecho ha sido a espaldas de sus maridos, así que también ellos deben ser juzgados. La mención en este pasaje de hombres, mujeres y niños nos indica que el culto a esta divinidad era de tipo familiar.
