Salmo de confianza, estructurado en tres cánticos: la sed (2-4), el hambre (5-9) y el juicio divino (10-12). La intensa espiritualidad del salmo tiene una densidad corpórea, como detectamos en el desfile de los sentidos: la garganta sedienta y la carne desfallecida (2), la boca que alaba (6), los ojos que desean ver (3), las manos que se elevan (5b), el contacto de las manos (9), el calor del cuerpo adherido (9a), madrugar (2) y acostarse (7)... Y todos los sentidos van más allá de lo sensible; el símbolo es trascendente. El orante vive una aguda sed de Dios (2), toca la mano divina (9b), etc. La sed es tan intensa como la del desierto: tierra «seca, reseca sin agua» (2b). ¡Ojalá que perdure esa intensidad mientras se contempla a Dios en el Templo y a lo largo de la vida! (3.5), mientras se sacia de comida y descansa en el lecho (6s), sencillamente porque «mi vida está unida a ti» (9a). La imprecación queda para quienes «intentan quitarme la vida» (10a). El Jesús de Juan ha hablado del agua y de la sed a lo largo del evangelio (cfr. Jua_4:13-14; Jua_7:37). En la cruz dice: «Tengo sed» (Jua_19:28). El inquieto corazón humano descansará tan sólo cuando descanse en Dios; hasta que llegue ese momento, será oportuno orar con este salmo.
