Últimos reyes de Judá. El Cronista ofrece en el último capítulo un resumen muy rápido de los acontecimientos que van desde la muerte de Josías hasta el exilio de Babilonia. Selecciona y resume 2Re_23:21-25, 30 y Jr 39; 52. El Cronista considera el exilio como un hecho trágico, pero ya concluido y muy lejano en el tiempo. El autor repite el estribillo «Hizo lo que el Señor, su Dios, reprueba» (5.9.12.14) de tal manera que la acumulación de las trasgresiones de los reyes desencadena el final trágico (16-20). Resulta significativo el comentario del versículo 21 que combina Jer_25:11 con Lev_26:33-35, donde el exilio es considerado como cumplimiento de la ley del descanso sabático para la tierra, aunque la realidad fue más compleja y la tierra se siguió cultivando.
Los versículos 22s contienen una versión del edicto de Ciro con el que rey de Persia permitió el retorno a Jerusalén de los israelitas desterrados. El texto es paralelo a Esd_1:1-4 e indica su continuidad con el relato de Esdras; además, expresa que la historia trágica del reino de Judá tendrá un final esperanzador.
