1 Now the sonnes of Reuben the first borne of Israel, (for [ Gen_35:22; Gen_49:4.] hee was the first borne, but, forasmuch as he defiled his fathers bed, his birthright was giuen vnto the

sonnes of Ioseph the sonne of Israel: and the genealogie is not to be reckoned after the birthright.
2 For [ Gen_49:9-10 .] Iudah preuailed aboue his brethren, and of him came the [ Mic_5:2 ; Mat_2:6 .] chiefe [ Or, Prince.] rulers, but the birthright was [ Gen_46:9 ; Exo_6:14 ; Num_26:5 .] Iosephs.
3 The [ Gen_46:9 ; Exo_6:14 ; Num_26:5 .] sonnes, I say, of Reuben the first borne of Israel were: Hanoch, and Pallu, Ezron, and Carmi.

5 Micah his son: Reaia his sonne: Baal his sonne.

7 And his brethren by their families (when the genealogie of their generations was reckoned) were the chiefe, Ieiel, and Zechariah,

9 And Eastward he inhabited vnto the entring in of the wildernes, from the riuer Euphrates: because their cattell were multiplied in the land of Gilead.
10 And in the dayes of Saul, they made warre with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents [ Hebrew: vpon all the face of the East.] throughout all the East land of Gilead.
11 And the children of Gad dwelt ouer against them, in the land of [ Jos_13:11 .] Bashan vnto Salchah.
12 Ioel the chiefe, and Shapham the next: and Iaanai, and Shaphat in Bashan.
13 And their brethren of the house of their fathers, were: Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Iorai, and Iachan, and Zia, and Heber, seuen.
14 These are the children of Abihail the sonne of Huri, the sonne of Iaroah, the sonne of Gilead, the sonne of Michael, the sonne of Ieshishai, the sonne of Iahdo, the sonne of Buz:
15 Ahi the sonne of Abdiel, the sonne of Guni, chiefe of the house of their fathers.
16 And they dwelt in Gilead in Bashan, and in her townes, and in all the Suburbs of [ 1Ch_27:29 .] Sharon, vpon [ Hebrew: their goings forth.] their borders.

[The genealogie of the Leuites.]

17 All these were reckoned by genealogies in the dayes of Iotham [ 2Ki_15:5 ; 2Ki_15:32 .] king of Iudah, and in the dayes of Ieroboam king of Israel.
18 The sonnes of Reuben, and the Gadites, and halfe the tribe of Manasseh, of [ Hebrew: sons of valour.] valiant men, men able to beare buckler and sword, and to shoote with bow, and skilfull in warre, were foure and fourtie thousand, seuen hundred and threescore, that went out to the warre.
19 And they made warre with the Hagarites, with [ Gen_25:15 .] Ietur, and Nephish, and Nodab.
20 And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were deliuered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battell, and he was intreated of them, because they put their trust in him.
21 And they [ Hebrew: led captiue.] tooke away their cattell: of their camels fiftie thousand, and of sheepe two hundred and fiftie thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of [ Hebrew: soules of men, as Num_31:35 .] men an hundred thousand.
22 For there fell downe many slaine, because the warre was of God. And they dwelt in their steads vntil the captiuity.
23 And the children of the halfe tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the lande: they increased from Bashan vnto Baal-hermon, and Senir, and vnto mount Hermon.
24 And these were the heads of the house of their fathers, euen Epher, and Ishi, & Eliel, and Azriel, and Ieremiah, and Hodauiah, and Iahdiel, mightie men of valour, [ Hebrew: men of names.] famous men, & heads of the house of their fathers.
25 And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went [ 2Ki_17:7 .] a whoring after the Gods of the people of the land, whome God destroyed before them.
26 And the God of Israel stirred vp the spirit of [ 2Ki_15:19 .] Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he caried them away (euen the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the halfe tribe of Manasseh:) & brought them vnto [ 2Ki_17:6 .] Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the riuer Gozan, vnto this day.

Tribus de Transjordania (5:1-26) .

Hijos de Rubén (5:1-10).
1 Hijos de Rubén, primogénito de Israel. Fue Rubén el primogénito, pero se le quitaron los derechos anejos a la primogenitura a causa de un pecado suyo (Gen_35:22; Gen_49:4).·Judá llegó a ser un naguid entre los hijos de Israel (Gen_28:4).

Descendencia de Gad (Gen_5:11-22).
11 Enfrente de ellos habitaban los hijos de Gad, en la tierra de Basan, hasta Salea. 12Joel, el primero; Safan, el segundo; Jaenai y Safat, en Basan. 13 Sus hermanos, según las casas de sus padres: Micael, Mesulam, Sema, Joraim, Jeacam, Zía y Eber, siete. 14 He aquí los hijos de Abigaíl, hijo de Juri, hijo de Jaroaj, hijo de Galaad, hijo de Micael, hijo de Jesisai, hijo de Jajdo, hijo de Buz; 15 Ají, hijo de Abdiel, hijo de Guni, era el jefe de las casas de sus padres. 16 Habitaban en Galaad, en Basan y en las ciudades de su dependencia, y en los ejidos de Sa-rón, hasta sus límites. 17 Fueron registrados todos en las genealogías en tiempo de Jotam, rey de Judá, y en tiempos de Jeroboam, rey de Israel. 18 Los hijos de Rubén y de Gad y de la media tribu de Manases eran valerosos, llevaban escudo y espada, tendían el arco y eran diestros en la guerra, en número de cuarenta y cuatro mil setecientos sesenta aptos para la guerra. 19 Hicieron la guerra a los agareos, a los itureos, a Nafis y a Nodab. 20 Fueron ayudados contra ellos, y los adareos y cuantos estaban con ellos cayeron en sus manos, pues durante la lucha clamaron a Dios, que los oyó por haber confiado en El. 21 Tomaron sus ganados, cincuenta mil camellos, doscientas cincuenta mil ovejas, dos mil asnos y cien mil personas, 22 pues hubo muchos muertos, porque el combate venía de Dios. Se establecieron en su lugar hasta el tiempo en que fueron llevados a la cautividad.

Media tribu de Manases (Gen_5:23-26).
23 Los hijos de la media tribu de Manases habitaban la región desde Basan hasta Baal-Hermón, y Sanir, y la montaña de Hermón. Eran numerosos. 24 He aquí los jefes de las casas de sus padres: Efer, Jisui, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremías, Hodavía y Jajdiel, hombres valerosos, gente de fama, jefes de las casas de sus padres. 25 Pero pecaron contra el Dios de sus padres y se prostituyeron tras los dioses de las gentes de la tierra que Dios había destruido ante ellos; 26 y el Dios de Israel incitó contra ellos el espíritu de Pul, rey de Asiría (el espíritu de Teglatfalasar, rey de Asiría), y Teglatfalasar llevó cautivos a rubenitas, gaditas y a la media tribu de Manases, y los condujo a Calaj, Jahor, Hará y al río Gozan, donde habitan hasta hoy.

En los v.25-20 se refiere el autor a las causas de la deportación de Israel hecha por Teglatfalasar III, que, al apoderarse de Babilonia, recibió asimismo el nombre de Pul (2Re_15:19).

Las tribus de Transjordania. Como en el caso de Simeón, se dan datos geográficos para el próximo grupo de tribus. Rubén, Gad y la media tribu de Manasés se instalaron al este del Jordán en las regiones mencionadas en los vv. 8b-11 y 23, que colectivamente se conocen como Galaad. El cronista menciona que Rubén fue el primogénito de Israel (1), aunque los derechos del primogénito fueron transferidos a José (y así a Efraín y a Manasés) y el lugar dominante pasó a Judá (Gén. 35:22; 48; 49:4, 8-12, 22-26). Como en el caso de Simeón, tenemos detalles de batallas. Todas estas tribus de Galaad tomaron parte en la campaña de los vv. 19-22 y sufrieron la invasión del v. 26. Si la guerra con los hagrienos es la misma que la del v. 10, entonces los dos eventos se responden uno al otro desde cada extremo de la ocupación de Transjordania que duró tres siglos (10, 26; obviamente muchas generaciones de la familia de Rubén han sido omitidas en los vv. 3-6). Ellos ilustran una regla espiritual básica: por un lado, la victoria se debe a la oración creyente (20); por el otro, la derrota se debe a la rebelión incrédula (25, 26).

Descendientes de Rubén, Gad y Manases. Estas tribus fueron deportadas en 734 a.C. por Tiglat Piléser, pero el Cronista confunde esta deportación con la de Salmanasar (2Re_17:6). El pecado es descrito con la imagen de la prostitución sagrada con otros dioses. Según la predicación profética, Dios se vale de extranjeros para castigar al pueblo.
