En esta súplica individual los enemigos actúan con cobardía y alevosía: se esconden y disparan «de improviso e impávidos» (5b). Su arma es la palabra calumniadora, más mortífera que la espada y los dardos. Son muchos -banda, tropel, camarilla- los malvados contra un inocente. Han tramado tan bien su actuación, que nadie los descubrirá (6b). No cuentan con Aquel que escruta los riñones y el corazón (7b), y llega, por ello, allá donde se preparan las armas: a la profundidad del corazón (7b). El contraataque de Dios es imprevisto (8), como lo había sido el ataque (5b), y es también certero (8b). Los espectadores han visto todo desde el principio. Una vez que han contemplado la actuación divina, se burlan de los enemigos (9b), temen ante la fulminante reacción divina, publican lo que Dios ha hecho, reflexionan y aprenden (10). Cuando la vida corre peligro o somos heridos por palabras afiladas, es tiempo de orar con este salmo.
