Proverbios 21,1-31
Chapter XXI.
1 The kings heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the riuers of water: hee turneth it whithersoeuer he will.
2 [ Pro_16:2.] Euery way of a man is right in his owne eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.
3 [ 1Sa_15:22; Isa_1:11; Hos_6:6; Mic_6:7; Pro_15:8.] To doe iustice and iudgement, is more acceptable to the Lord, then sacrifice.
4 [ Pro_6:17.] [ Hebrew: hautines of eyes.] An high looke, and a proud heart, and [ Or, the light of the wicked.] the plowing of the wicked, is sinne.
5 The thoughts of the diligent tend onely to plenteousnes: but of euery one
[Keepe the mouth.]
that is hastie, onely to want.
6 [ Pro_10:2 ; Pro_13:11 .] The getting of treasures by a lying tongue, is a vanitie tossed to and fro of them that seeke death.
7 The robbery of the wicked shall [ Hebrew: saw them, or, dwell with them.] destroy them; because they refuse to doe iudgement.
8 The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure; his worke is right.
9 [ Pro_25:19 ; Pro_13:3 ; Pro_27:15 .] It is better to dwell in a corner of the house top; then with a [ Hebrew: a woman of contentions.] brawling woman in [ Hebrew: an house of societie.] a wide house.
10 [ Jam_4:5 .] The soule of the wicked desireth euill: his neighbour [ Hebrew: is not fauoured.] findeth no fauour in his eyes.
11 [ Pro_19:25 .] When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiueth knowledge.
12 The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God ouerthroweth the wicked for their wickednesse.
13 [ Mat_18:30 .] Whoso stoppeth his eares at the cry of the poore, hee also shall cry himselfe, but shall not be heard.
14 [ Pro_17:8 ; Pro_18:16 .] A gift in secret pacifieth anger; and a reward in the bosome, strong wrath.
15 It is ioy to the iust to doe iudgement: but destruction shalbe to the workers of iniquitie.
16 The man that wandreth out of the way of vnderstanding, shall remaine in the congregation of the dead.
17 He that loueth [ Or, sport.] pleasure, shall be a poore man: hee that loueth wine and oyle, shall not be rich.
18 [ Pro_11:18 .] The wicked shalbe a ransome for the righteous; and the transgressour for the vpright.
19 [ Verse 9.] It is better to dwell [ Hebrew: in the land of the desert.] in the wildernesse, then with a contentious and an angry woman.
20 There is treasure to be desired, and oyle in the dwelling of the wise: but a foolish man spendeth it vp.
21 Hee that followeth after righteousnesse and mercy, findeth life, righteousnesse and honour.
22 [ Ecc_9:14 .] A wise man scaleth the citie of the mightie, and casteth downe the strength of the confidence thereof.
23 [ Pro_12:13 ; Pro_18:21 .] Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue, keepeth his soule from troubles.
24 Proud and haughtie scorner, is his name, who dealeth [ Hebrew: in the wrath of pride.] in proud wrath.
25 [ Pro_13:4 .] The desire of the slouthfull killeth
[A good name.]
him: for his hands refuse to labour.
26 Hee coueteth greedily all the day long: but the [ Psa_112:9 .] righteous giueth and spareth not.
27 [ Pro_15:8 ; Isa_66:3 ; Jer_6:20 ; Psa_50:9 ; Amo_5:22 .] The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it [ Hebrew: in wickednesse.] with a wicked minde?
28 [ Pro_19:5 ; Proverbs 19,9.] [ Hebrew: a witnesse of lyes.] A false witnesse shall perish: but the man that heareth, speaketh constantly.
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the vpright, he [ Or, considereth.] directeth his way.
30 [ Jer_9:23 .] There is no wisedome, nor vnderstanding, nor counsell against the Lord.
31 [ Psa_33:17 .] The horse is prepared against the day of battell: but [ Psa_3:9 .] [ Or, victory.] safetie is of the Lord.
